(Japan) Nishizawa Gorge

Trekking @ Nishizawa Gorge (Nov. 5, 2022)

Nishizawa Gorge, also called Nishizawa keikoku, is one of the popular places in Kanto region of Japan to enjoy Autumn leaves. We were lucky enough to visit there at the best time this year. The view was indeed breath-takingly beautiful.

We took the easiest trekking route at the lower area, mostly along the river. There were uncountable waterfalls, transparently clear emerald-colored water was flowing all along the way. The yellow and red leaves were everywhere, in any directly, which was picture perfect with the emerald water, just like heaven.

It was fun to pop from rock to rock, between water, but water-resistant non-slippery hiking shoes would definitely be helpful. Apart from a short steep slope down to the riverbed, another steep slope up from the riverbed, it was mostly flat and wide, more like a relaxing walking route. Part of the route was narrow, next to the river, but there was always chains or ropes along the way for you to hold on to, so not really dangerous.

At the entrance of Nishizawa Gorge, there was a little shop selling homemade yomogi mochi. This shop has been there for a very long time, their yomogi mochi have very rich yomogi favor, much more richer than those sold in the market. It is a must-try!
