(Korea) Bikepacking around Jeju (Part 3)

Oct. 12-16, 2023

I stayed at this guesthouse because I read from reviews on google map that it includes very rich homemade breakfast. Although I had to wait till 8AM for breakfast, it well worths it!

The breakfast was buffet style of many different Korean pickled vegetables, handmade (some even handpicked) by the hostess. Also, there were grilled fish and delicious soup and rice. Also, there were many local guests and the Parrot owned by hostess to keep my company. It was such a delightful morning.

The road at the eastern part of Jeju was most easy and pleasant. There were endless of seaview, beautiful seawater all the way from Seafoam to Emerald green, many windmills, impressive amount of seaweed gathering along the coastline, fish markets and resort areas…

I passed by some popular trails and sight-seeing spots, but too bad I did not stop by. I didn’t know that I would return to Jeju city by early afternoon. The traffic became heavy again on the way to Jeju city. I had to ride at the sidewalk slowly with annoying up & downs… I stopped by small supermarket to shop for dinner and souvenirs. Soon, I returned to the same hostel as the 1st day, where I could dis-assemble and pack my bike at the spacious lobby.

Next morning, I made myself an egg omelet and headed out for a walk before going to airport. I wanted to visit the popular Dongmun Market before leaving, but I was wrong to visit it in the morning instead of at night. Although internet said it opens at 8AM, it was quite empty and many shops had not opened yet. I bought some souvenirs and left.

It was a very pleasant 1st solo overseas bikepacking trip. Although I had some problem with language (even with google translation) and foods (mostly large size and spicy), I had a good time chatting with many strangers along the way. I wouldn’t have chatted with so many strangers if I were in Japan or weren’t traveling solo. I think that the sea of Jeju is more beautiful than Okinawa, because of its ever-changing color. Also, you wouldn’t find such endlessly long seaside road in Japan, so next to the sea. Often time I was riding at the same level as the sea, there was just a simple fence, or even just some rocks between me and the sea, it was exciting.
