Prague: The City of a Hundred Spires
Prague, the capital of Czechia, is one of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities. Built along the Vltava River, it’s famous for its colorful buildings, Gothic churches, charming cobblestone streets, and lively squares. Nicknamed the “City of a Hundred Spires,” Prague feels like an open-air museum where every corner tells a story.
The city’s history stretches back more than 1,000 years, and it has been home to kings, emperors, and artists. Today, visitors come from around the world to admire its stunning architecture, cross the iconic Charles Bridge, and enjoy the city’s vibrant cafés, beer gardens, and local culture.
Prague Castle: The Heart of Czech History
Standing high above the city, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle complex in the world and has been the symbol of Czech history for over a thousand years. It was once home to Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, and today it serves as the official residence of the President of Czechia.
Inside the castle grounds, you’ll find magnificent palaces, peaceful courtyards, gardens, museums, and the breathtaking St. Vitus Cathedral, whose towering Gothic spires dominate Prague’s skyline. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying spectacular views over the city, Prague Castle is a must-visit and the perfect place to begin exploring the Czech capital.

This was actually my second time in Prague. During my first visit, I stayed near the main train station and wandered around the Old Town until I reached the bridge. I could see Prague Castle standing proudly on the hill in the distance, but it was getting dark and the climb felt a bit too far, so I only admired it from afar. Even then, Prague had already left a strong impression on me. I didn’t even have time to visit the magnificent National Museum—I could only stand outside and admire its grand exterior.
This time was completely different. We stayed near Prague Castle and took a taxi up the hill, which meant we could explore a whole new side of the city. The castle itself was impressive, but what truly took my breath away was St. Vitus Cathedral. I’ve visited quite a few churches around Europe, yet this one still managed to amaze me.
I didn’t go inside, but the outside alone was incredible. The towering Gothic architecture, countless statues, and gargoyles clinging to the roof made it feel like something straight out of a fantasy movie. The stone monsters looked as if they were guarding the cathedral and keeping evil spirits away. Standing beneath them, I almost felt like I’d stepped into a world where angels and demons really existed.
The castle grounds were just as magical. There were grand gates guarded by soldiers in traditional uniforms, peaceful gardens, and beautiful viewpoints overlooking the city. Walking through the courtyards felt like traveling back to the Middle Ages.
Prague has a unique way of blending history, fantasy, and everyday life. Even on my second visit, it still managed to surprise me, and I have a feeling I could return many more times without ever getting tired of this amazing city.
