Oct. 12-16, 2023
Next day, my breakfast was self-cooked eggs and bread again. This time I made 3 eggs. The eggs in Jeju seems fresh, so almost like fake!
And then, I left the little town, passing fishing port and the view of Hallasan, and headed east.
At the top of a slope, I wanted to take a break, but I could find nothing but a fruit store selling many big bags of mandarin oranges. Obviously I could not eat nor carry so many oranges, so I negotiated with the shop lady with google translation, and finally got the shop lady to sell me 3pcs of big mardarine oranges for KRW 2000. I sat down and enjoyed one of them immediately. They were so big and juicy!
When I looked for toilet, I found more Dol hareubang, still no idea they were real (ancient) or fake, I took pictures with them neverless.
I noticed that unlike Japan, the convenient stores in Jeju mostly do not have toilets, also the public toilets in Jeju do not have toilet paper. I guess I was too spoiled in Japan. Luckily, I could find toilet at the beaches, and there are plenty of beaches in Jeju!
I found a favorite drink in Jeju, which is black bean milk! Also, I continued to see drying squid, sea women statues, Hallasan and rainbow roads! The landscape was flat and pleasant.
After long ride, I finally found the stone pot rice restaurant recommended by a local girl last night for my late lunch. Southern part of Jeju was more remote, so it was not easy to find a restaurant for lunch. The steamed pot rice with clam did not have much taste, but the grilled fish, varieties of pickled vegetables, little fishes and sauce were impressive. It was such a rich meal at good price (KRW 15,000), and worth the wait!
After a big lunch, I continued to ride along beaches, I arrived my guesthouse just before dark. I had the whole room alone that night, but the guesthouse was at the middle of fields, so there were quite many mosquitoes, I was already bitten at couple places while locking up my bike in their store room… At night I had to cover myself head to toes with my travel sheet to protect myself from mosquitoes, as I kept hearing them flying next to my ears.
I took out my headlamp to walk between the dark fields to a nearby supermarket to look for dinner at night. Shopping at local supermarkets has always been my favorite activity, because you can see all the local foods, and they are most affordable. I even found Jeju milk! The tasty Korean congee was my favorite. I had chicken & green bean congee for one night, and beef & mushroom congee for another night.
