(Spain) Barcelona – Part 3 (Dec 28, 2018 – Jan 1, 2019)

===== From Wikipedia =====

Parc Güell is a privatized park system composed of gardens and architectural elements located on Carmel Hill, in Barcelona, Spain. The park was built from 1900 to 1914 and was officially opened as a public park in 1926. In 1984, UNESCO declared the park a World Heritage Site under “Works of Antoni Gaudí”.

Park Guell was one of my favorite places in Barcelona. Its colorful lizard has pretty much became a symbol of Barcelona. In fact, Park Guell is free to entry before 7am, sometimes give out free tickets or has open house. Many sites on the internet teaches you how to entry for free, such as the one below.

When I was staying in an apartment near Sagrada Familia, Park Guell was just about 2km away, so I jogged up to Park Guell to see the runrise amost every morning!

The sunrise at Spain in winter was really late. Even if I went out at a decent 6am, it was still all dark outside and nobody on the streets, as if at night.

However, jogging at early mornings of Barcelona was not scary at all! There were plenty of street lights, and the ancient buildings looked so romantic under the streetlights and moonlight!

Also, you get to see the huge trash boxes & trash-dumping trucks on the quiet streets. These trucks had automatic arms to grab the trash box to dump the contents inside. It was fascinating to me, like watching the robot movie “Transformer” in real life! (In Japan, the trash cars are much smaller, and workers need to get out of the cars to load the trashes by hand!)

The uphill to Park Guell was not steep at all, it was easy. And soon I noticed there was a shortcut, long narrow stairway, which can take you up to the parking lot, and the (back?) entrance was just right in front of the parking lot. (I only found the front entrance with the lizard, ticket counter and steep road much later.)

Before 7am, there was no guide, gate was wide open at the entrance. I wasn’t the only one there. There were a few locals jogging or walking as well. Usually, when I arrived, it was still before Dawn. At higher altitude, you can oversee the whole city from the Park, beautiful nightview, including some Park Guell buildings, but it was also windy and cold. I usually bought a thin down jacket & had to move around to keep myself warm.

However, the Park Guell at night was so peaceful, and it felt different to see all these interesting features in the dark. I loved it. I would wonder around until the sky changed colour and the day became bright. Then, I would finally see how colorful all those decorations really were! Truly fascinating!

Although I didn’t pay for the entrance, so I didn’t see the restricted areas, but in my mind, I had already what most people didn’t get to see — the magical sunrise at Park Guell!

Please enjoy!!
