(Czech) A flash visit to Kadan

Feb. 2025

I had a chance to visit Czech for the first time. Initially, I planned to only spend time in Praha, but I accidentally found this adorable small historical town called Kadaň (pronounced as “Kadani”), so I decided to spend the weekend there instead.

Unfortunately, it was Sunday, so almost all the shops closed. We only found a kebab shop for lunch, and a coffee shop (ES Cafe) to tea, and walked quite a long distance to the only opened supermarket (Lidl).

However, we had a good time walking around this pretty town. It was so relaxing, quiet and peaceful, no need to worry about tourists or pick-pockets. We discovered a torn building which used to be leather glove factory exporting to many foreign countries.

After slightseeing at the Kadan Castle and Peace Square, we found an interesting secret alley (Katova ulička). It was long and narrow, with such traditional stone walls and structure, which was like going back in time.

I stayed at Wellness Hotel Split, which was a nice hotel with hot bath at the basement, and rich breakfast. The hotel located right next to the river. There was an interesting landmark (Kadaňský orloj) next to the river. I even have river view from my room window. Next morning I woke up before daybreak for a run. Although it was -4degC outside, there was no wind, so not really cold. Also, the night view of this town was romantic and magical.

I ran along the riverside. It was dark but still have enough streetlight. I even managed to find a dam nearly (Lávka Vítka Brandy). It was small but beautiful. I even visited there again after sunrise.
